We aim to always respect a woman’s circumstances and consider she is the expert on her own life experiences. We try to respond to her needs and wants in a confidential, safe, professional and approachable way. [ Leichhardt Women’s Community Health Centre, June 2011 ]
Leichhardt Women’s Community Health Centre is a non-government, not for profit, community-based organisation which provides multidisciplinary, preventative health and treatment services to over 10,000 women a year.
The centre is located within Sydney Local Health District, and most of the centre’s services are funded through NSW Health with a focus on women living in the local community who are currently experiencing disadvantage. Some services are accessible to a wider range of women. Medical services are funded by Medicare bulkbilling and are not for profit. The Centre has Public Benevolent Status with the Australian Taxation Office, and as a result donations of $2 and above are tax deductible.
OUR VISION
LWCHC is actively committed to the rights of all women to access quality health care and to the realization of better health outcomes for women.
The centre does this by providing preventative health and health treatment services which are designed and delivered in an wholistic, integrated way to improve women’s quality of life. [ March 2011 ]
We aim to provide an environment where all women in the local community, regardless of their financial situation and the complexity of their health issues, are able to access high quality health care.
Services include women’s health nurse clinics, general practitioner clinics, counselling, naturopathy, acupuncture and health education groups and talks.
Employing 20 staff, the Centre prioritises services to local women experiencing financial disadvantage. Many women who use our services are currently experiencing other factors that compound their disadvantage, such as being older, homeless, single parents, indigenous, survivors of domestic violence and childhood sexual assault, from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, same sex attracted, or experiencing chronic health conditions. Along with the services that are local to Sydney’s inner west, Leichhardt Women’s also operates the NSW-wide Women Partners of Bisexual Men Service and this service is open to all women in NSW whose male partner is same sex attracted men.
The Centre is open every week day! Daily hours are: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 9.30am-5.30pm and Wednesdays 2-5.30pm. We close for lunch between 1 and 2pm.
