In 2014 Leichhardt Women’s Community Health Centre celebrated its 40th anniversary as the first women’s health centre in Australia!

The event was a wonderful success with over 300 people enjoying afternoon tea in the park with Her Excellency Professor The Honourable Marie Bashir AC CVO, the then Governor of New South Wales, Leichhardt Mayor Darcy Byrne, Deputy Mayor Linda Kelly, Member for Balmain Jamie Parker MP, local community, present and past staff and Board of Management members, entertainers and many other interested and enthusiastic afternoon tea-goers.

The following week NSW Minister for Health and Minister for Medical Research Hon. Jillian Skinner MP visited the centre and had lunch with Board members and some of our closest local partners with whom we conduct primary health care clinics.

We’ve held a Women’s Health Series: Strong Bodies Better Bladders – seven workshops in Leichhardt and Lakemba run by our physiotherapist Emily Bogue to tackle the important and often preventable and manageable women’s health issues of continence/pelvic floor health, bone health and osteoporosis and persistent pain.

If you were a member of staff, a management committee member, collective member or were otherwise involved in the centre’s formation – please make sure we have your details by emailing Roxanne McMurray on Roxanne@lwchc.org.au or calling Roxanne on (02) 9560 3011.
